This map was for many years hanging in the Parish Office and dates from the 1970s. It shows medieval Catholic sites in Shetland, cross referenced to the Ancient Monument card index now in the Shetland Archive. I hope to gradually transcribe the entries and use them to produce a revised listing using the information uploaded to the Canmore data base, organised by civil parish.
Some years after our map was drawn, a more detailed listing was published by R.G. Cant in his "Medieval Churches and Chapels in Shetland", Lerwick 1975. I will base my listing on his numbering system. I do not own the copyright of this map and it is included here on the principle of 'Fair use'. Please do not reproduce it in print without reference to the copyright holder.
